General
Read the first two on-line help topics.  The on-line help can be activated by the help menus or pressing F1.  Open, examine, solve and modify the sample problem to get a feel for the overall working.  In general, the on-line help has all the information needed to build complex models.  Almost all topics are listed in the contents page.

Installation and File Management
Installation is done by simply copying all files ( or unzipping the self extracting file PPUnZip.exe)  into a desired directory such as c:\PetroPlan.  You may want to keep all files in this directory for now or create an additional working directory  that holds your simulation and customized submodels.  You must declare this working directory using the File|SubModel dir menu.  Submodels and crude assay searches are made in this directory first and then in the directory where PetroPlan.exe resides.

Block Flow Diagram Graphic
Moving the blocks and streams with mouse is easier before block type is selected and before all streams are connected.  Once connections are made, dragging a block should be done in small steps alternated with small stream movements.  Note that a block or stream move will not be permitted if there is not sufficient free space around the block.

The calculation sequence is set by you when you fill the block input's Place After entry.  A proper entry there will ensure that you have no unintended recycle streams. When feed to a block is product from a downstream block, it is a recycle stream (shown in green color). PetroPlan allows recycle streams.

LP Blender
Always, the results are mathematically accurate.  The combination of product prices, feed properties and product specs must be examined carefully when you run into unexpected results. You may use RateV min or max specs to restrict the LP solver.

Modifying submodels
Do not hesitate to modify library submodels to suit your needs.  For example, you might have an FCC that has heavy cycle oil product that is not made by the library FCC model.  Or you may want to fine tune the constants in the library submodel equations without changing the basic form.  It is suggested that you examine simple library submodels such as reformer.mod and also read the help topic on submodel writing.
